WASD to move.

A engine I made, it's still a bit buggy.
I am planning to make something like Wolfenstein 3D in Flash.
I don't think Flash will be able to render a dynamic floor.

Edits:
*V0.2 Fixed the perspective.
*V0.3 Added the floor and more textures.

Raycasting makes my laptop struggle. Check out something I did a while back [link] Using rotateZ , rotateX, rotateY.

Wow awesome, how did you do that? That's way better then my engine!

check this video out. [link] the main thing to know is .rotationX, ..Y, ..Z. So pretend a movieclip is a plane and then you can build things as basic rooms and boxes. Trying to do something like characters I don't see it with this method. There are no cameras so you have to move the whole container of your 3d scene.

Ah thank you very much, but how do you design levels this way?
And I will try to use this, I can use better graphics your way.

I can't find the source files...
If you're planning on making a game I suggest you try this [link]
I didn't use this because at the time it wasn't available. Now it is available, though if you want to make a 3d demo only people with the flash player 11 beta can see until it gets released to the masses.

Mmm the link doesn't work, page not found, and I think flash 11 will be released soon so it's interesting to make a game on that.

it is very heavy.

I don't think it makes too much sense to create a raycasting engine yourself if there's hardware accelerated 3d support in flash now.

Mmm yeah maybe, but maybe I wan't to create the oldschool first 3D games effect.
And maybe making this will give me more of an idea how 3D works :)

How do the new features of FlashPlayer not give you an idea of how 3d works?

molehill is low level

But the new features aren't released yet, and maybe I want to recreate a old-school shooter.

new technology doesn't make old things impossible jsut by being new.

well, it's of course up to you, so good luck with you project =)
I'm looking forward to see the next version.

No I know, but that's not the point, the point is that I think it would be fun to have a shooter on flash, and the easiest way to do it is to make it really oldschool.

And thank you very much :)

It isn't actual 3D, it is pseudo 3D, you cant rotate around an Z-axis.

Ah I see. I had heard there would be a customized OpenGL plug-in or something of that nature but hadn't seen much about it yet.

Either way, what you did is pretty darn awesome.

Mmm I guess not much, adding enemies is very easy, it's just a bitmap like in wolfenstein 3D, the only hard work is the pixel art. And the level creating etc.

you should generate your rays by tracing through a "plane" (line in 2d) in front of the camera point; from looking at the results here, it seems you're just stepping at a constant angle within the field of view.
