This could be useful. I was planning on maybe doing some normal lighting stuff.
since i have no height maps on my pc... I discoverd it also changes pictures into prety cool relief ones
i think you'd probably want to use a somewhat better filter to get the derivatives, eg Sobol.
Yeah I want to do that later, I use a simple edge pixel filter now because I am generating the normal map for Pixel Art, and Sobol and other filters don't work well on that.

Well I am creating a Flash game, with my new Stage3D game engine ,[link] And for the game I use Pixel Art. It's a strategy game with a day/night cycle so I use colored lighting from different sides for that. So the normal map is used for the angle of the sun. But when I use the Normal map filters from xNormal or GIMP I always get really blurry lighting or weird edges.
